About Me

Darius Taylor is an up and coming baritone based in Memphis, Tennessee. In the summer of 2021, Darius was a Young Artist with Opera Steamboat’s Artist Institute in Steamboat Springs, Colorado where he sang the roles of Publio in La Clemenza di Tito (Mozart). He also sang Fiorello and covered the role of Figaro in Opera Steamboat’s mainstage production of Il Barbiere di Siviglia (Rossini). In the summer of 2022, Darius returned to Opera Steamboat as a Resident Artist where he took on the roles of Alcindoro and Benoit in their production of La Boheme and performed in various recitals in the area.

 Darius received his M.M. in Opera Performance from Arizona State University in 2021. While he was there, he studied under Dr. Stephanie Weiss and performed a number of roles including Henry Davis from Kurt Weill’s Street Scene, Beau from Christopher Weiss’s and John de Los Santos‘s Service Providers, and Marco in Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi. He received his B.M. in Vocal Performance from the University of Tennessee at Martin, where he studied under Dr. Roberto Mancusi and sang many roles with the UTM Lyric Opera Theatre including Mr. Gobineau from Menotti’s The Medium, and St. Peter from Edwin Penhorwood’s Too Many Sopranos. 

During the spring of 2021, Darius began teaching voice at the University of Tennessee at Martin as an Adjunct Professor of Music and collaborating with different musicians throughout the northwest area of Tennessee, spreading his joy and passion for music with any and all who would listen. In the fall of 2023, he began working on his Doctor of Musical Arts at the University of Memphis where he began working with Matthew Burns.
